What is a Master Gardener?
Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who extend the land grant mission of Extension across the state. Volunteers serve their communities through education in environmental sciences, using plant clinics, demonstration gardens, phone information, community projects, and more. These Extension-trained volunteers connect Alabama residents to gardening information and educational opportunities. Do you love plants? Do you love to volunteer your time? What do Master Gardeners do?
Master Gardener volunteering is a passion. Volunteers serve their communities through education in environmental sciences, using plant clinics, demonstration gardens, phone information, community projects, and more.
What is the Master Gardener Program?
The Alabama Master Gardener Program is a prescribed instructional program designed to train volunteer personnel in the subjects of horticulture, entomology, plant pathology, and soils. In exchange, volunteer interns provide 50 hours of volunteer Extension work under the supervision of and Extension agents sponsoring the program.
How do I become a Master Gardener?
Do you love plants? Do you love to volunteer your time? Then you are a great candidate for to become an Alabama Extension Master Gardener volunteer. These Extension-trained volunteers connect Alabama residents to gardening information and educational opportunities. You do not have to be a garden expert. Simply come with a desire to learn and grow.
To become a certified Alabama Extension Master Gardener volunteer, people must 1) earn an Extension Master Gardener Course Certificate (see course information below) and 2) complete a minimum of 50 Extension volunteer hours within a 12-month period.
